Availability of Salish, Aurora Golden Gala and Nicola

Salish is a new variety; therefore, only a limited number of orchadists are growing the variety in the Okanagan and the young trees still have light fruit production. This will change as orchards mature and more growers apply for licenses to grow this high-end apple. In the meantime, quantities are limited.

The Aurora Golden Gala and Nicola can be found in many fine grocery and produce stores in BC. Aurora Golden Gala are generally ready to market the second week of October, making them a mid- to late-season apple. Nicola is available a few weeks later.

Cool nights and warm autumn days ensure that these “Born in BC” varieties are crisp with good strong colors. Market apples are carefully picked and scrutinized to prevent bruising and to guarantee a flawless apple. They are then placed in cold storage where they will stay fresh for a minimum of six months.
