Hermiston Orchards is owned and operated by Jim and Cathy Hermiston and is located in the Prairie Valley area of Summerland. Jim’s grandfather, James Hermiston, began orcharding in 1916, after trading two quarter sections of land in northern Alberta for ten sight unseen acres in Summerland. The farm has since been expanded and is still operated by the Hermiston family. Jim and Cathy have three children, all of whom have been involved with the orchard operation.
Hermiston Orchards is exclusively an apple growing operation with plantings of Aurora Golden Gala and a small (600 tree) block of Salish. They also grow Gala, Royal Gala, Ambrosia, Spartan, and some minor numbers of pollinizing varieties.
Referring to the Aurora Golden Gala, Jim states: “My neighbors and friends love this apple. It’s sweet and tangy, crisp and juicy!”
